COVID-19 Policy Update
A few reminders on our changes for the well-being of students and teachers:
Preregistration is recommended as we have reduced our capacity to 13 people per class.
The studio will be open ~15 minutes before class and close 10 minutes after to allow our teachers time for extra cleaning. If the door is locked - they may still be switching and cleaning between classes, the safety of our teachers and students is our number one priority!
We will be disinfecting common surfaces and running a UV air purifier between classes.
If you feel ill or are of questionable health, please stay home. The CDC recommends that you quarantine yourself for a period of 14 days if you experience symptoms or have close contact with someone who has fallen ill.

New Dawn Yoga Instructors
It’s been five years since we opened our doors at New Dawn, I hit countless obstacles through the process. In fact most sane people would have walked but my heart kept calling me back and I am wildly stubborn.
Yoga and our New Dawn family has saved me again and again. Unwavering support from our community and a practice that provides the peace within me to bring into harmony the many facets of my true self. It is essential that we practice being human beings instead of humans doing.
In my class and anytime you enter the studio I want you to feel comfortable to come as you are. You will be seen, heard and valued.
I teach from my heart and a deep gratitude. We will sweat, breathe, move, laugh, maybe cry and perhaps cuss.
I am the studio momma bear and one of my many blessings is watching our beautiful and talented teachers step into their power and evolve. I believe in each of these young women wholeheartedly and invite you to come make magic with them.
Hi, friends! My name is Julia. I first fell in love with the physical practice of yoga while in high school. My upper body strength and hypermobility lent themselves to a visually impressive physical practice. Basically, I could do some really cool things with my body, but my head was still a mess. After a few big life changes and struggles after college, I came back to the practice for a different reason. Yoga helped me create the calm and happiness that seemed so out of reach for so long.
I teach because I've seen and experienced the benefits of a traditional yoga practice in my own life. I will always consider myself a student. I’ve completed Devanadi Yoga’s 235 hour and 340 hour certifications with Tanya Boigenzahn for E-RYT 500 status and have pursued subsequent trainings in Thai Yoga Bodywork, chair yoga, yin yoga, yoga nidra, anatomy, yoga history, philosophy, and functional breathing. I’m thankful to have had the experience of working with bodies of every age and ability and can meet you where you are in your practice to help you further your understanding and appreciation of yoga. I currently teach a variety of group classes, private sessions, and workshops at New Dawn and work behind the scenes on our social media and organization. If you message us on Instagram or Facebook - there’s a good chance it’s me!
I became interested in yoga when I was the director of a fitness center in La Crosse Wisconsin circa 2004 I’m old. Our only instructor was moving and I had no one to teach so I quickly got certified and started teaching. As a no pain no gain fitness junky I was skeptical, but it became a life changing experience. Allowing myself to slow down and be quiet changed my life in so many ways. I do love incorporating strength into my classes and finding new ways to challenge my participants.
My name is Jessica, you can also call me Jes. I have been teaching at New Dawn for about 3 and a half years. I was introduced to Yoga at around age 6, circling back around in my early twenties to find a steady practice, it turned into a major part of my life and healing. New Dawn was the first time I tried “hot yoga” and I was Home. I was able to step into a part of me that was missing, The fort was the answer to a lot of my prayers, it came along with a group of amazing mentors and friends who just want to spread love. I have over 600 hours of teacher training, and I have so much yet to learn. Ss long as I am a teacher I will be a student! I love questions about your practice and I love one-on-ones, feel free to reach out to me anytime to further your studies!
I experience Vinyasa yoga as a subtle conversation between the breath and body, observed by awareness. The conversation is guided through intentional movements connected by measured breathing to delicately reveal a spacious center. Through teaching yoga at New Dawn, I hope to share a heart-centered practice that celebrates compassion, builds strength, and shifts perspective toward connection. My classes tend to favor a slow/moderate pace with opportunity to observe several breath cycles in most postures. I invite you to breathe, move, and reflect with me.
Hello! My name is Kendrie. I first discovered yoga when I was pretty young, my sister and I would go to a kids yoga class once a week. However, I didn’t step into my practice until college. I studied Spanish at The University of Iowa and with all the changes that college brings, yoga helped me balance it all. It has helped me slow down, be present in the moment, and live a more intentional life. My practice has taught me so many things about myself and has taken me on a self exploration journey. I will be forever growing and evolving with my practice. I cherish the connection that yoga brings through movement and breathwork. I enjoy slower paced classes that encourage you to quiet your mind and come to your breath.
Hello! My name is Jessie Switzer, and I am so excited to join in on this yoga journey with you at New Dawn! I recently got my Registered Yoga Teacher certificate (RYT 200) from an amazing program. I have been practicing yoga for about 4 years to help balance my life, emotionally and physically, and to be in community with other yogis. I am also passionate about running, and been an avid runner since high school. Another one of my stress relievers! I am also a wife to Matt for almost 20 years and we have 4 kids ranging from 16, 14, 11, and 6, and we live in Cedar Falls. My husband is a 6th grade teacher at Southdale Elementary, and I resigned from teaching Title I reading about 4 years ago to work part time at a non-profit agency called The Job Foundation. I am the Elementary Director, and our mission is to teach kids and their families financial literacy, and to get out of the poverty cycle. It is also a mentoring program and the students earn money for their grades, behavior and effort in school. It is a very rewarding job!
I am looking forward to meeting you all....Namaste!
Hi! My name is Sam Cota. I grew up in Harpers Ferry, Iowa and graduated from UNI with a major in theatre, double emphasis in performance and theatre for youth. On a whim one day, I told myself I would, "just try one yoga class." I was instantly captivated. Helping people move their bodies in ways that feel good has become my passion in life. I teach Vinyasa yoga, Yin, kid yoga and Barre currently! When not teaching, you can find me outdoors with my dog or performing on a theatre stage!
